Thank you for visiting my site and taking interest in my photography! I would love to have the opportunity to meet you and see if I am the right person to cover your wedding day! So first and foremost, let me introduce myself! My name is Phan!
Looking back to my childhood days, just like every other kid my age, I was really into cartoons and action figures! The only thing was: my parents didn't have the money to buy me all of the action figures I would have wanted! Fortunately, my drawing skills were decent enough that I was able to draw out in detail, shade in and color my very own action figures! I was considered "the artist" for many years! Right about now you might be thinking, "that's nice but how does all of this relate to photography?" Well let me tell you!
Anyone can pick up a camera and take a picture. A picture is just a picture until to get the correct lighting, framing and include the right content; if you get all of these elements working together, what you have left is art. I look to create art!
Looking back again, (do you guys ever take a moment to do this? I was blown away to remember some of these things!) I remembered that I used to fantasize about my wedding day! Why is that anyway? Hmm... Oh that's right! It was because I heard that "every little girl fantasizes about her wedding day." and I wondered what the big deal was about! Maybe in part from the soap operas I was forced to tune into by my mom, (there was only one TV) but I developed my own fantasy.
I imagined myself standing at the alter, waiting for my bride to walk down the isle. The double doors of the church open up and the sunlight shoots into the room. Everyone is silent as my bride-to-be slowly walks in and looks around at all of the loving, familiar faces. Our eyes meet through the mesh of her veil and my breath is instantly sucked out of me. I've never seen someone so beautiful in my life: This was it. This is the one I am meant for. The one to spend the rest of my life with. The thing all little girls fantasize about. I got it. I understand. This became a fantasy of mine as well; until I finally went to my very first Asian wedding: my uncle's, and it all poofed into air. A traditional Asian wedding consists of a tea ceremony at the bride's house and one at the groom's house. Then there's a reception at a restaurant. That's it. No church, no isle, no waiting at the alter. There was no way that my fantasy would come true. I let out a long sigh.
Fast forward to today. I picked up photography because my artistic tendencies pushed me into it's direction. Instead of creating art from pencil to paper, I now create art from the placement of my subjects, my framing, and lighting followed by the slight click of a button. When I take a picture, I try to imagine what angle would be best to capture what I want; to capture my vision. I picture every wedding as I would love to see it in my own. I do research to know what is going to happen and place myself in the right position in the right moment to take the pictures I envision in my mind. Every chance I get, I try to replicate the way my imaginary wedding played out. Every time I do, it get's me that much closer to my vision. My mission.
Congratulations! You made it to the end now know more about me than I did myself at the start of this thing! Now I think its time I get to know you better! Shall we? :)
